Move aside Winter! Here comes Summer, with ocas-sions aplenty to savor the increasing assortment of white Spanish varietals in the market, ranging from crispy and luscious Albariño, to miraculously textured Godello, to subtle and complex Viura. Doug Frost guides us in a fascinating journey across Spain, to pinpoint varieties of lesser known white wines, which were obscure until only a few years ago, but have now joined our every-day wine lexicon. He provides us with a road map of what varieties might captivate our senses next. Pameladevi Govinda journies to Galicia to discover all the nuances of Albariño and other wine varieties of that region, while Kerin Auth (who spent weeks with winemakers in the Basque Country) reports on her own little darling, Txacoli. We shared the table with Rohini Dey at her Vermilion restaurant to discover magic combinations of Indian and Latin flavors in the company of Spanish wines. A long-distance love affair with Rioja wines, where Tempranillo is king, culminates with Leslie Sbrocco´s visit to the region, a place that offers something amazing for all. Leslie also reports on her trip to Madrid Fusión, and Michael Franz describes his delight at rediscovering Sherry. Next, a little bird takes us to Seattle to enjoy pintxos and sip wine at Txori (which means bird in Basque). Cynthia Nimes reports. We are proud to announce we are going green in 2009! What you are holding in your hands, oops, looking at on your screens, is the new digital version of Wines from Spain News. Reduce, pass it on, and enjoy.
